The Second-Hand Market is Booming: Circular IT Poised to Double in the Next Decade
The second-hand market is experiencing rapid growth, and circular IT is expected to double within the next ten years. “The increasing interest in circular IT is evident in the rising demand from our customers and the industry's overall growth,” says Patrik Isberg, Sales Director at Inrego.
Circular IT is undergoing strong expansion. The economic downturn, combined with a heightened focus on sustainability and information security, has prompted more companies to think resource-efficiently about their IT assets. More organizations are now buying refurbished equipment and reselling what they no longer use.
Inrego experienced an impressive 30% growth in 2023, with record-breaking sales throughout the autumn. "Our customers and partners recognize the significant economic potential in circular IT," says Patrik Isberg.
He continues:
“With this increased interest, we’re seeing greater demand for simple and secure management, robust reporting, and information-secure processes. These are exactly the areas we’ve developed over nearly 30 years in the industry, and we’re proud to help our customers optimize their IT management.”
Information Security and Simplicity
Information-secure processes and detailed reporting are key priorities. Since Inrego doesn’t sell any new equipment, the company has long focused on ensuring secure downstream processes. Transparency in the value chain, compliance, and information security rank high on IT managers’ agendas—needs that Inrego has been meeting for years. This focus has contributed significantly to the company’s strong performance this autumn.
“Requirements are becoming stricter, and to prevent IT managers from being burdened with administrative tasks, we’ve made all data available and ready to use directly through our circular portal,” Patrik explains.
The potential is enormous. Earlier this autumn, Inrego highlighted that over half of Swedish companies store their old IT products instead of reusing them, and that more than 80% of Swedish municipalities have not procured IT take-back services. “Imagine the impact we could have if we repurposed all those unused computers and gave them a new lease on life,” Patrik says.
Scaling Up to Meet Demand
The high demand has led Inrego to strengthen collaborations with IT resellers. “To meet the growing demand, we’re now working even more closely with IT resellers, creating new opportunities to deliver high-quality refurbished equipment on a large scale. Circular IT is now entering the mainstream market,” Patrik concludes.
